Scholarship

The Medieval Studies Student Association is a scholarly organization at its heart, providing students a supportive environment in which to learn about the middle ages and to share that knowledge with others.

About the Student Colloquium

The MSSA Colloquium occurs once each semester and offers a venue for students of medieval studies from any field to give papers in a friendly and open environment. The colloquium is open to graduate and undergraduate students of medieval studies. Those who are active in medieval studies degree programs are especially encouraged to participate as doing so can provide valuable insight from our faculty and fellow students.

The colloquium also strives to have students mimic the conference experience as closely as possible. Those who present papers should keep to 20 minutes in order to allow for a question and answer session at the end of each panel, which typically consists of 2 papers. If you submit an abstract that is accepted, you will be expected to provide your presider a brief academic biography.

Presiders who volunteer for the colloquium will need to review the abstracts submitted by the students to speak in their session, introduce those students, call for questions for each of the papers, and have a question ready to ask each presenter.

Colloquia Archives

Here you'll find the archives of past colloquia, including programs, abstracts, and photos when available. Posting the back catalog is an ongoing project; if you have questions about a specific colloquium, please feel free to e-mail MSSA. We will answer you as quickly as we can.
